HAPPY EASTER!

HAPPY EASTER!!!
What are you going to do these days? Anything special? We've got 10 days off!

DID YOU KNOW?

  • Easter comes from the word "Eastre". It was a goddess (DIOSA) who symbolized hare (liebre) and egg.
  • Easter is always celebrated between March 22 and April 25.
  • The egg is a symbol or rebirth (renacimiento)
  • When someone eats a chocolate bunny, the first parts that the 76 % eat are the ears.
  • Every year, the Pope (now, Pope Francisco I) sends his "Urbi et Orbi" to the world.
  • The 1st chocolate Easter egg dates from 1873.
  • In a year, 90 million of chocolate is sold (se  vende) in UK. At Easter, they sell a lot of chocolate, as you may imagine!

And now, it's time to prepare a delicious recipe for Easter. It seems really easy. Will you try to do it?
                                HAPPY EASTER!!!

WHERE DO YOU LIVE?

This week, we have started a new unit in 1ESO. It deals with the topic of housing and furniture (recuerda: furniture NUNCA lleva plural!!!). In Spain, most people live in a block of flats (pisos) or in houses with several floors. Today, I want to show you the most typical types of houses in UK.

The first one is the detached house. It is a separate house. In fact, the word "detached" means "separado".

The second one is the semi-detached house. It means that the house is joined (unida) to another house by one side. They share a wall that separates them.
There are two different houses, two different front doors. Can you see them?

The next one is the terrace. These houses form a row (fila) of similar houses. I've seen many of these in Zaragoza :).

Of course, the flats (or apartments), like the flats we live in. They are not the most typical houses, but they really exist.

There are so many other kinds of houses that we couldn't finish enumerating them, but the types I have shown you are the most typical and the ones you'll probably see when you travel or when you watch some images from the UK.

And now, my question is...
Which type of house do you prefer?

1ESO WEDNESDAY WORK

DID YOU KNOW THAT A WOMAN PIERCED HER BODY 151 TIMES?

Well, this is one of the discoveries that all the students from 1 ESO D found last Wednesday.

Samuel brought to class three books about World Guinness Records (Thanks a lot, Samuel! They were so heavy to carry!) and all the students were searching the most amazing records. They worked in groups and they elaborated some posters like the ones you can see on the photo.

We enjoyed a lot because most of the records seem impossible, but they are real.
Perhaps, you can do something different or special and some day you might appear on this book. You never know.

Congratulations, kids!!!

PD Thanks Jorge P. for the colour paper ;)

AMERICAN vs BRITISH ENGLISH

Hi everyone!
We live in an American world but we learn British English. Isn't it shocking?
At school, we try to study British English both writing and speaking.
However, films (or movies), some of our favourite series and most songs we listen everyday use American English.
Apart from vocabulary, it is important to differenciate their pronunciation. Can you make any differences?
I'm leaving you a poster with some words in both varieties and I invite you to click the link from youtube, where two people compare some words. They speak really clearly, so I'm sure you'll understand. You can also find this video in the right column "My favourite videos" on this page.
I hope you like it!
Have a great week! :)

GRIMMS' FAIRY TALES WITH 2º ESO

Yesterday, 2 ESO started a project about Grimms' Brothers, since we are watching (from time to time) some chapters of Grimm series.
As we all know, the Grimms wrote a great amount of fairy tales, which have been modified by people to nowadays' conditions. A clear example is Disney with classics like Cinderella, Snow White or The Sleeping Beauty. The tales are really different from the originals and this is what I want you to do.
The task is easy. You are going to compare the original version with the present version. You may choose the tale you prefer. Prepare an essay and then, by means of Windows Movie Maker, make a summary of one of the versions. Isn't it interesting?

For this essay to be possible you may need these webpages:

HELP!I DON'T KNOW THE NUMBERS!

                       18,546

Can you read this number aloud (en alto)? Most of you have problems when reading a number and I can't allow it. Numbers in English are so easy! Just learn them well and practise as much as possible. I want to give you a webpage with lots of numbers. When you put the mouse on them, you can hear their pronunciation. I think it can help you. Try once and again (una y otra vez). Numbers will appear many times in your life. Make an effort! (Haz un esfuerzo)

Past Simple Activity

Next week, you've got your second term exam. Past Simple is something you should study quite well, so I'm offering you an activity to do if you want to revise. You can do it and if you've got some doubts, just write me or ask me in class. Good luck!

FANGORIA IN ZARAGOZA

Eva and Iris at FNAC last weekend
Do you know Fangoria? I'm sure you do. If not, you can ask Eva and Iris (1 ESO B) because they are great fans of this group of music.
Last weekend, they went to FNAC in Plaza España to have their CDs signed. They told us that they had to wait a really long queue to enter FNAC, but they are really happy because they met Alaska :).

By the way, Mario Vaquerizo was in the street waiting for his wife... We love them!
Thank you Eva and Iris for the photo. It's amazing ;).

See u!

* By the way: por cierto.
* Sign: firmar.
* Queue: fila.

ST PATRICK'S DAY

17th March is coming and it means that one of the most famous festivities in the world is getting closer. Today, I want to talk about St Patrick's Day.

St Patrick is the saint patron of Ireland and this particular festivity involves lots of public parades, concerts, outdoor theatre performances and fireworks.
The typical colour people wear this day is GREEN (although, originally, it was blue) and shamrock its worldwide known symbol.

I'm leaving you the official webpage of the feast. You'll like it for sure. Could you add more info about this festivity? Let's create a summary with all your ideas!
